Thanks to concerned reader Shmuel Botnick for calling attention to the serious crisis Klal Yisroel is facing. He writes:
Let’s face it, we’ve got a huge problem. Klal Yisroel is torn, the question looming over us like black clouds billowing out of a coal factory. Is it pronounced Keechel or Kih-chel? This debate has torn families apart, ruined potential shidduchim, and destroyed business partnerships, perpetuating the very sinas chinam that brought about this Golus in the first place. In fact, I’m in the midst of writing a book “Pronouncing Kichels in our Turbulent Times.”
So how do you say it?

Depends on your background
I think it’s probably more heimish to say Keechel!
P.S. you guys are seriously super talented on so many levels!!! This strip is always so relatable
It’s obviously Kichel. Not keechel.
They live in the US and their kids who are way too socially savvy – would be mortified if their pronunciation was so European (and nerdy) sounding. It’s bad enough all or most of their names have a ch sound.
Rhymes with tichel.
Do with that what you want.
(I’ll never tell anyone how to pronounce anything, but no one who knows how to speak normally says teechel, do they? Whatever, just saying.)
You think this is a shanda? What about kugel? keegel? blech. worse than herring.
its definitley keechels, if it would be kih – chels, it would be spelled that way.+its harryish 2 say kih-chels.
Definatly Kichel!
i mean im really bad at spelling and pronconcing things but even i know keechel just sounds wrong.
besides more people voted for kichel either way.
